Posted in : Others

(added few months ago!)

GPS devices, also known as Global Positioning System devices, are one of the wonders that technology has given to us. A number of companies are manufacturing GPS tracking devices which have already been accepted worldwide. Within past few days, this technique has also been added as a full-time feature to mobile phones.

GPS Devices- Tools for Finding the Exact Location

However, special GPS devices are more useful rather than using this as an application on a cell. There are various models of GPS devices that are available in the market, such as handheld devices, and tracking devices. These devices work while communicating with N.A.V.S.T.A.R G.P.S satellites that are revolving around the earth. Once the communication starts, signals are sent by these satellites, which helps you in locating the area where you are standing or where you want to go.

Application areas where these devices are mostly used include navigation, surveying, tectonics, cellular telephony, geofencing as well as map making. Not only GPS devices facilitate you in finding the right direction but also the correct time zone.

If you want to go for bust buy of GPS device, you can chose from the plethora of machines that are designed and manufactured by leading companies, such as Magellan GPS devices or for the compact apparatus from Garmin. GPS devices offered by these companies offer the best services at the most competitive prices.

Dedicated GPS navigation devices

Posted in : News

(added few months ago!)

Dedicated devices have various degrees of mobility. Hand-held, outdoor, or sport receivers have replaceable batteries that can run them for several hours, making them suitable for hiking, bicycle touring and other activities far from an electric power source. Their screens are small, and some do not show color, in part to save power. Cases are rugged and some are water resistant.

Other receivers, often called mobile are intended primarily for use in a car, but have a small rechargeable internal battery that can power them for an hour or two away from the car. Special purpose devices for use in a car may be permanently installed and depend entirely on the automotive electrical system.
The pre-installed embedded software of early receivers did not display maps; 21st century ones commonly show interactive street maps (of certain regions) that may also show points of interest, route information and step-by-step routing directions, often in spoken form with a feature called "text to speech".

Cell Phones Will Take over GPS Market

Posted in : News

(added few months ago!)

Cell phones will replace the personal navigation device (PND) as the primary GPS device by 2011, according to the research firm iSuppli. The firm predicted that cell phones will then account for 36% of the GPS market, compared with 30% for PNDs, which today account for 50% of global navigational units sold.

The report also predicted that price drops among PNDs will lead to smaller manufacturers selling out to larger hardware companies over the next year or two. (Doesn't this happen in every gadget category?) Reminds me how cell phones were going to replace digital cameras -- don't believe that has happened yet.  But maybe GPS is a more easily stormed market ...

Get a 4.3-inch GPS with lifetime maps and traffic for $99.99

Posted in : News

(added few months ago!)

I said, "Hey, look, here's a GPS with lifetime traffic for under $100." His response: "I'd rather have lifetime maps."Well, sir, how about both? Today only, Staples has the TomTom VIA 1405TM 4.3-inch GPS for $99.99 shipped (plus sales tax in most states). It comes with free traffic data and map updates for life. The Via 1405TM is part of TomTom's newer line of nav systems. It's noteworthy for being extremely slim and looking a heck of a lot more stylish than the relatively dull, chunky models that preceded it. The more-practical specs include a 4.3-inch screen, advanced lane guidance, 7 million points of interest, and the option of fuel-efficient "Eco Routes."

Of course, the big attractions are the traffic and map updates, which could run you upwards of $100 annually if you decided to purchase them. Also, as with other TomTom GPSes, you can outfit the VIA 1405TM with a roster of amusing celebrity voices. (I continue to recommend Homer Simpson. It just never gets old!)
This model has a list price of $179.95, and the best deal I've seen elsewhere is around $129. So if you're in the market for a new GPS, this is one slick buy at $99.99. Remember: today only! (And, as always, while supplies last.)

Bonus deal: There's (almost) nothing I love better than free cloud storage. Pogoplug normally offers 5GB of it to all comers, but as part of an exclusive CNET promotion, you can get 10GB of Pogoplug cloud storage absolutely free. For life! You will need to sign up for a CNET membership if you haven't already.
